Turning Creator Trust into Brand Favorability
Gen Z scrolls past anything that reads like an ad. American Eagle sought to break through anyway, aiming to shift brand perception from “like” to “love” and reclaim share in jeans, a category core to the brand’s identity. For Gen Z, their trust lives with creators, so American Eagle partnered with Ovative to build engagement organically before expanding reach through Meta partnership ads. The result was a renewable creator content engine that powered American Eagle’s organic and paid media needs well past one season.

APPROACH
Amplifying creator trust with Meta partnership ads
To earn a place in Gen Z culture, American Eagle needed to show up inside the moments where the audience already lives. Ovative built an influencer approach centered on intentional casting of 14 nano- to mid-sized, Instagram-first creators whose content reflected campus culture, social events, and everyday Gen Z routines. That casting strategically paired male creators with denim-focused content to support American Eagle’s goals of growing their Men’s Business and reclaim market share in the jeans category. Ovative built every brief around culturally relevant moments, like outfits for class and packing for spring break, so content formats matched what was already resonating organically on Instagram.
Rather than launching directly into paid, creator content ran organically first for three to seven days, giving it room to build engagement, reach, and sentiment with its audience before media investment followed. Ovative then amplified the content through Meta partnership ads, running ads directly from creator handles to preserve the authenticity and social proof of creator-native storytelling while unlocking paid scale.
To extend reach among users likely to engage, Ovative also targeted an interest-based audience built around creator content and category engagement. Creative ran in two-week flights to protect against fatigue, then Ovative moved top-performing assets into always-on campaigns for extended reach. Pairing that cadence with a maintained roster of 14 creators, Ovative turned the program into a renewable content engine for American Eagle, built to run well past one season.

IMPACT
From engagement to brand favorability
Earning trust before buying attention paid off. A Brand Lift Study measured an impressive 22pt lift in Standard Favorability, 3.9x the retail benchmark. The organic-first model backed that up at the performance level, too. American Eagle saw an engagement rate 237% above benchmark, proof the approach earned attention instead of just buying it.
By pairing creator-earned trust with Meta's paid scale, Ovative helped American Eagle do more than run a creator campaign. They built a program Gen Z believed in, one that successfully shifted brand perception from "like" to "love" using creator authenticity as the vehicle. With this durable system, Ovative and American Eagle built an always-on creator engine that outlasted the Spring season, with the proven framework extending into Summer and Back-to-School.
Meta took notice, awarding the program is 2026 Creator Campaign of the Year award.
