Shenanigans and Scholarships

While the Twin Cities were a buzz with the upcoming Big Game 52 coming to town, the team at Ovative/group decided to spread hype about the game while also doing good for the local community. As part of Shenanigan’s Day 2017, Ovative/group partnered up with our friends at The BrandLab, a nonprofit organization whose mission is to change the face and voice of the marketing industry, to raise money for our first-ever Ovative Scholarship. A team at Ovative organized a raffle for two tickets to the Big Game to raise $10,000 for a college scholarship for one deserving program participant from The BrandLab. Once the funds were raised in December, applications were open for The BrandLab’s students, and over the next two months the difficult process of choosing just one deserving student began.

Difficult as it was to choose, as all applicants were amazing and deserving, one stood out above the others: That student is CharDay VinCal.

CharDay is a sophomore at Hamline University pursuing a degree in marketing. CharDay was chosen by a panel of team members at Ovative who believed that her application exemplified our mission of fearlessly unlocking potential. CharDay is not only a full-time student, but she also works a full-time job to help cover tuition expenses. She explains that this scholarship would provide her with the opportunity to focus more on her education and soak in all that Hamline has to offer:

I would be able to unlock my potential by becoming the best student I can be, which will ultimately lead to me becoming the best person I can be.

We are honored and excited to award this scholarship to CharDay. Through our Ovative Charitable Giving Committee (CGC), The BrandLab scholarship was just one of our many community efforts from 2017. The CGC was created as a way to have an organized giving structure and opportunities for staff who want to do more for the local community and beyond. Ovative’s CGC main focus is to fearlessly unlock the potential of local youth with limited opportunities by giving time, services, and donations to build their futures.

One of the CGC initiatives is the Ovative donation match program. Staff members can donate to causes they are passionate about, and Ovative will match that amount for up to $250. As we enter into 2018, we set a goal to double our staff giving – and four months into the year, we’ve reached a quarter of that goal.

Aside from the benefits of working at Ovative such as being surrounded by an amazing team of incredibly smart people, having a flexible vacation policy, and just generally being a great place to work – it feels great to know that Ovative not only sincerely believes giving back to the community is important, they support staff and find ways to help make it easier for them to give back.
